SPINE FRACTURES SURGERY
What are Spine Fractures?
Spinal fractures have different effects than other types of breaks and fractures. Even minor spine fractures can be painful and troublesome. A spine fracture can cause fragments of bone to pinch and damage spinal nerves and the spinal cord. Causes for spinal fractures include:
Car accidents
Falls
Weakness of degenerative discs
Sports collisions
Coughing and sneezing
Additionally, your bones can become weaker if you have osteoporosis, making fractures and dislocations more likely. Vertebrae can become so weak that they can actually collapse. Depending on the severity of the fracture, you can experience mild to heavy pain. Paralysis can also be a result of a spine fracture.
Confusing Back Pain with Fractures
Many people believe that back pain and uneasiness is a result of growing older, but if your backaches are being caused by a spinal fracture, the likelihood of more fractures rises. Deformations can occur, and you’ll end up with a hunched back.
These spine fractures and deformations will make everyday activities more difficult to do – things like bathing, sleeping, cooking and driving can become arduous and put further strain on your body. Your mobility will suffer greatly from a spinal fracture.
Difficulties breathing and getting food into your stomach will arise if the fracture is not treated. A slew of other medical issues may arise if your fracture is not attended to and treated.
